Online Publisher Conversion
Technical details: Conversions from online publisher assessments to child outcomes reporting
Several commercial assessment publishers provide online systems for storing and retrieving data from their early childhood assessment measures. These systems provide reports converting child assessment data to the five progress categories and three child outcome areas required for Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) reporting. To create these reports, publishers have devised calculation procedures that: (1) compare a child’s scores at entry and exit to what is expected given their age and (2) compare a child’s performance at exit to that child's performance at entry.
Some of these publishers have documented the procedures used for computing the information for the online assessment reports for OSEP reporting. Over the last several years, the ECO Center has provided varying levels of assistance to different publishers in development of formulas for the calculations. Each publisher is responsible for ensuring the technical adequacy and accuracy of the procedures that generate the data contained in the reports generated by its assessment system.
The technical information available here is provided so that states can review the methodology for the calculations and make informed choices about the online systems that they decide to use. The ECO Center does not endorse the use of any specific assessment instrument. Thus, the inclusion of an online system on this page does not constitute the endorsement of an instrument.
For additional general information about the process of deriving the calculation formulas for the publisher online assessment systems, please email a request to staff@the-eco-center.org.
