An agency within the Department of Education, IES funds research about child and family outcomes in early childhood.

National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD)
An agency within the National Institutes of Health, NICHD funds research about child and family outcomes in early childhood.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
An agency within the National Institutes of Health, NIMH funds research about child and family outcomes in early childhood.

Organizations

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)
The Council of Chief State School Officers is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.

Division for Early Childhood (DEC)
The Division for Early Childhood promotes polices and advances evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of young children who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
The National Association for the Education of Young Children is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8.

National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)
The National Association of School Psychologists represents and supports school psychology through leadership to enhance the mental health and educational competence of all children.

The Nonprofit Technology Network

Zero to Three
Zero to Three is a national nonprofit organization that informs, trains and supports professionals, policymakers and parents in their efforts to improve the lives of infants and toddlers. Resources include communicating infant-toddler issues with policymakers.

Projects

BUILD Initiative
Supported by the Early Childhood Funders' Collaborative (ECFC), this is an eight-state initiative to assist states to build comprehensive and coordinated early childhood systems for young children and their families.

Data Quality Campaign
The Data Quality Campaign (DQC) is a national, collaborative effort to encourage and support state policymakers to improve the availability and use of high-quality education data to improve student achievement. The campaign provides tools and resources that will help states implement and use longitudinal data systems, while providing a national forum for reducing duplication of effort and promoting greater coordination and consensus among the organizations focused on improving data quality, access and use. The campaign has recently expanded its focus to include early childhood data.

The Center for Early Literacy Learning (CELL)
The goal of the Center for Early Literacy Learning (CELL) is to promote the adoption and sustained use of evidence-based early literacy learning practices. This site has resources for early childhood intervention practitioners, parents, and other caregivers of children, birth to five years of age, with identified disabilities, developmental delays, and those at-risk for poor outcomes.

Early Childhood Technical Assistance (ECTA) Center
The ECTA Center is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs to improve state early intervention and early childhood special education service systems, increase the implementation of effective practices, and enhance the outcomes of these programs for young children and their families

National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO)
Provides national leadership in the participation of students with disabilities in national and state assessments, standards-setting efforts, and graduation requirements.

National School Readiness Indicators Initiative
Works with 17 states to develop a comprehensive set of school readiness indicators. Sponsored by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and the Ford Foundation; coordinated by Rhode Island KIDS COUNT.

PolicyForResults.org
PolicyForResults.org is dedicated to helping policymakers make sound decisions that contribute to better outcomes and opportunities for all children and families. This is a project of The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, research and technical assistance organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI)
TACSEI is a five-year grant made possible by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. TACSEI takes research on improving social-emotional outcomes for young children with, or at risk for, delays or disabilities and creates free products and resources to help decision-makers, caregivers, and service providers apply these best practices.

The Urban Institute
The Urban Institute's Center on Non-profits and Philanthropy has developed an outcomes framework for non-profit organizations. The framework has example outcomes and indicators for many different areas of activity.
