Breast Health Care: Easy to Read, Easy to Understand
This pamphlet was developed to teach women with intellectual disabilities about breast cancer screening, how to be healthier and how to be their own health care advocate. The information is at a low reading level (3rd grade), provides pictures and diagrams, and reflects the concerns and images of these women.

Teaching, Responding, & Communicating Quality Physical Education
This 4-page brochure summarizes simple techniques and adaptations for children with phyiscal and/or mental disabilities that may not be able to have their needs met in a regular physical education class. This report is a composite of information gathered at three focus group meetings. The purpose of these focus groups was to identify important health and health care issues for women with disabilities in North Carolina in preparation for the 1998 North Carolina Women’s Health Summit. This guide, originally written by Dr. Sandra Welner, has been updated by Suzanne C. Smeltzer, RN, EdD, FAAN and
Nancy C. Sharts-Hopko, RN, PhD, FAAN. The guide is designed for clinicians to
improve their knowledge and practice in providing care to women with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions.
It includes information on access to general medical care, removing common barriers, comprehensive reproductive health care and health promotion and wellness.
